Some people like to travel, and some like to stay closer to home.  If you do like to travel and are concerned T1D will stop you, it doesn’t have to.  There are precautions and more things to prepare for, but it can be done.

Our page: “Packing with T1D” lists in detail things to remember.

Travel is not necessarily on an airplane, it can be hiking, cycling or skiing an hour drive away; which also takes preparation.

In the coming weeks we will post various articles about our experiences preparing for travel, near and far:

  • Vacations that are more sedentary compared to those including more activity.
  • Supplies may be easily accessible within the country as compared to internationally and options in the event.
  • Travelling with T1D, including : Navigating an airport and security.
  • Time zones may impact insulin requirements; travelling east will make the day shorter, travelling west will make it longer.
  • Favourite travel items

Travel has been a part of our lives before T1D and will continue to be important to us.  As a family, one or more of us has visited each place a picture has been taken.

We enjoy travel close to home and internationally.  We visit some of the locations together and some separately…….and there is something to be said for a nice quiet day in our own back yards.

Find pleasure in wherever you are and make the most of each day.
