Even though we’re Canadian, we are huge NFL fans (I know sacrilege!). Super Bowl is as close as you can get to a national holiday in our house and for the past few years, we have hosted a Super Bowl party where our house is filled with people, food, and kids running wild. Now that the conference finals have wrapped up (with crushing disappointment for a house full of Saints fans) I am ready to start the exciting task of menu planning. Every year we choose a few local favorites from both cites or regions. As well most of our friends bring dishes to share, which has become a big part of the fun and we have a few standby favorites that are easy to make ahead of time and make an appearance every year.
Here is our Menu for Super Bowl LIII as the LA Rams face off against the New England Patriots in Atlanta
Featured Team Dishes
Pimento Cheese Dip (Atlanta)
French Dip Siders (Did you know the French Dip sandwich originated in LA!)
- We haven’t had the chance to post our favorite recipe yet, but here is a similar and tasty one from the Pioneer Woman.
Grinder Sandwiches (New England)
- I was really rooting for Kansas City this year (I’m sorry Pat’s fans!), not because I have anything against New England but because I’ve really been struggling to find good game day food ideas with a nod to New England. I know that hot clam chowder is a favorite at Gillette Stadium, but I just couldn’t bring myself to serve up a pot of it at the Super Bowl Party. When I had no ideas left I found the Grinder Sandwich, I had never heard of it before! It is New England’s take on the Sub. This great post from theauntijunecleaver.com is a great intro to the Grinder and as a bonus, the only carbs are in the bun making it easy to carb count! I’m planning on serving ours with slider sized rolls and a selection of deli meats at a make your own station.
Clam Chowder Dip (New England)
- I made this for the Super Bowl last year and to my great surprise, the bowl was empty by the end of the game! I haven’t made it enough times to be confident in a consistent and accurate carb count, so I have linked back to the original recipe.
- A quick note: In Calgary, I found it very hard to find anything resembling a good quality canned clam chowder (I also couldn’t find canned clams) so I settled on the Cambell’s Chunky Soup version and it worked well
