These classic Italian street foods essentially lead to the same type of meal. Meat on a skewer or stick. There are as many ways to cook Spiedini’s as there are to serve them. Simple and delicious, marinate or not, no recipe is necessary.
Spiedini, Speducci, and Spiedies
Spiedini is “meat on a stick” – Classic Italian Street food.
Speducci is a more traditional meal of lamb cubed and skewered from the Aruzzo region of Italy.
Spiedies are a mainstay sandwich from Binghamton, New York (4 hours from NYC).
Use a grilled baguette to slide the meat from the skewer, use a piece of thick fresh bread, or serve over rice. Some recipes bread the meat, others marinate for a short time, others for days. Italian Dressing is a common marinade. We just happened to serve an Italian Salad Dressing (and Salad) with the Spiedini.
There were so many recipes it was overwhelming. So, we decided to try various approaches to the skewers alongside a grilled baguette brushed with a little garlic olive oil, and an Italian Salad Dressing (and Salad). Delicious!
Gluten Free products don’t quite hold up the same as their Gluten cousins. Brush the grilled GF hot dog bun with garlic olive oil immediately after it has grilled. Gluten baguette cut in half can be brushed with the oil prior to grilling.
