Located in the Old Historic District of Savannah, Chive Sea Bar and Lounge came highly recommended. It’s decor is inspired by the decadence of the roaring 20’s in the oldest City in Georgia.
Chive Sea Bar and Lounge, Savannah, Georgia
We stayed at nearby Kehoe House and ate at Chive twice it was so good.
Perfect were the Vegetable Spring Rolls ($12.00) with a glass of Lamberti Prosecco from Italy ($ 14.00).
The She Crab Soup ($16.00) and a very cold glass of Maso Canali Pinot Grigio, also from Italy was perfect on hot Southern days ($14.00).
The House Risotto ($8.00) is a delicious side dish.
Spring Rolls are a savoury Chinese snack traditionally made during the spring with spring vegetables – hence the name. Spring Roll Pastry made with wheat comes in various sizes and is typically used for deep fried Spring Rolls and Samosas. The average sheet weighing 8 grams, and 8 inches by 8 inches is 5 CHO. Our guess is each Vegetable Spring Roll was about 6 CHO, filled.
Spring Roll Pastry is not to be confused with Spring Roll Rice Paper, much larger, thinner and used for fresh Spring Rolls like our Thai Shrimp (Chicken) Rolls. These Rice Papers are usually 8 CHO per sheet and filled about 10 CHO each.
She Crab Soup is made from the female blue crab and its orange color comes from the roe. Similar to a Scottish Seafood Bisque, brought by the early settlers in the 1700’s; She Crab Soup seems to have localized in the South Carolina Low Country (Charleston) and Savannah. It is a signature soup not to be missed. We average 1 cup is about 7 CHO.
We love Risotto of any kind. This signature Italian dish was found on several menus in the Southern U.S. It is the Carb heavy addition to the meal at 11 – 12 CHO per ¼ cup.
See our recipes for: Risotto alla Milanese, Shrimp Risotto, Mushroom Risotto and Lemon Risotto. Regardless it is worth sharing some.
Do make the Chive Sea Bar and Lounge a destination if you are in the area. We would absolutely return.
